چکیده

Using pedotransfer functions (PTF) to estimate soil hydraulic properties may be necessary in soil water flow simulations for large-scale projects or in pilot studies. The accuracy of a PTF outside of its development dataset is generally unknown. The existence of multiple models that are developed and tested in one region, but may perform relatively poorly in other regions, is also common in meteorology, where multimodel ensemble prediction techniques have been developed (i.e., those using an averaged prediction from several models) to address this problem. The objective of this work was to estimate the applicability of an ensemble of PTFs for water regime simulations. Measured soil water contents and pressure heads of 60 points at five depths in a 6-m transect of a layered loamy soil were collected during an extremely wet year in Belgium. Soil water fluxes were measured with passive capillary lysimeters at two depths. Water retention was measured in the laboratory on samples taken at 60 locations at three depths.

Soil water characteristic curve shows the relationship between soil water content and matric suction, which has an important role in water movement in the soil. The measurement of this curve is expensive and time-consuming in laboratory therefore, many methods have been proposed for its estimation including pedotransfer functions. By using the pedotransfer functions, soil water characteristic c...

Mul model Simula on of Water Flow in a Field Soil Using Pedotransfer Func ons

1 S fl ow simulations have a multitude of applications at various scales, from irrigation scheduling to obtaining global climate change estimates. Modeling of fl ow in variably saturated soils requires water retention and hydraulic conductivity parameters that are impractical to measure for largescale projects. As opposed to saturated fl ow, the nonlinearity of the unsaturated fl ow constitutiv...

The Influence of Using Soil Particles Percentage in Comparison with Geometric Characteristics of Soil Particles on the Accuracy of the Pedotransfer Equations and the Critical Point of SWRC

Soil water retention curve (SWRC) reflects different states of soil moisture and describes quantitative characteristics of the unsaturated parts of the soil. Direct measurement of SWRC is time-consuming, difficult and costly. Therefore, many indirect attempts have been made to estimate SWRC from other soil properties. Using pedotransfer functions is one of the indirect methods for estimating SW...

Measurement Scale Effect on Prediction of Soil Water Retention Curve and Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity

Soil water retention curve (SWRC) and saturated hydraulic conductivity (SHC) are key hydraulic properties for unsaturated zone hydrology and groundwater. In particular, SWRC provides useful information on entry pore-size distribution, and SHC is required for flow and transport modeling in the hydrologic cycle. Not only the SWRC and SHC measurements are time-consuming, but also scale dependent. ...

Cropping practices, soil properties, pedotransfer functions and organic carbon storage at Kuanria canal command area in India

Effects of cropping practices on soil properties viz. particle size distribution, pH, bulk density (BD), field capacity (FC, -33 kPa), permanent wilting point (PWP, -1500 kPa), available water capacity (AWC) and soil organic carbon (SOC) were assessed. The pedotransfer functions (PTFs) were developed for saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks), water retention at FC and PWP of soils for different...
